broadcasting the content which the laws don’t allow.

Recently many government officials have raised their voices and filed complaints in past few months.

They say that the content was salacious or insulted the religious sentiments.
Netflix first Indian original series “Sacred Games”, faced a court challenge last year over “offensive
scenes” and pejorative remarks. They even called our former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi the
Hindi word “fattu” translated in subtitles as ”pussy”, they tried to make fun of the Indian history in
which the person did the best he could do for the country.

Indian Politian who accused Netflix shows of “defaming Hindus”. Several more shows have since
followed. Leila was adopted from recent novel, this one is by the journalist Prayaag Akbar. The show
begins in the year 2047 exactly after 100 years after India gained its independence. The country is
also known as Aryavarta, a sort of militarized Hindu state that segregates members of different
religions and castes. Leila is a warning of what India could become. The show has many scenes which
shows exaggeration, of course but its lesson is important.

While Americans got to evolve as the internet slowly over the last three decades, Indians are now
experiencing a sudden revolution. People are still exploring what internet actually is. Thanks to the
cheap smartphones and cellular data plans, tons of Indian users are coming online every year.

Netflix however has tempted Indians and has increased the number of users in past few months
lately. Until very recently, its monthly subscription plans have matched the rate in the United States,
for example $9 monthly. In United States TV subscription is $70 which is way more expensive, that’s
the reason why every other person is doing Netflix. In India Netflix and TV has same prices.

In July Netflix launched a cheaper, standard, mobile plan only for about $2.80 a month. Netflix CEO
Reed Hasting has said, his company’s “100 million” subscribers will come from India very soon.
